The Problem

If this sounds like you, you are in the right place

  • You try to compose and it all sounds the same, with no real inspiration or originality.
  • You “kinda” get theory, but key signatures, intervals, and chords still feel fuzzy, so you keep guessing.
  • You can start an 8 bar loop, but getting out of the “ideas” phase and actually finishing a track is brutally hard.
  • You struggle to mix and polish your music, so even your best ideas do not sound legit next to the tracks you love.
  • You want your music to evoke real emotion, but you do not know how to control rhythm, harmony, and melody well enough to do it.
  • You feel overwhelmed by tools and notation, and you are not sure what to learn next.
  • You sit down to compose and what comes out feels basic, flat, and kind of MIDI. You have ideas, but they never quite turn into a full piece that you are proud of.

Music Theory 3 solves that by giving you a clear path from fuzzy ideas to finished, expressive music.

Who This Is For

Whether you are:

Your hard drive is full of half tracks.

Brand new to finishing music with a hard drive full of half tracks.

You need a reliable system.

Mid level and inconsistent with a few YouTube or SoundCloud tracks but no reliable system.

You want your fire back.

Stalled out after a burst of early progress, unsure how to get your fire back or get into game music at all.

This course gives you the concrete theory skills you need so composing stops feeling like guesswork and starts feeling like a craft you control.

What You Will Be Able To Do

By the end of The Best Music Theory Course: Level 3, you will be able to:

01 · Rhythm

Compose rhythms that feel human and alive, not robotic

Understand compound meter, metric hierarchy, accents, syncopation, and advanced rests so your grooves can swing, pulse, and breathe instead of sounding like quantized grids.

02 · Harmony

Build modern, expressive harmony instead of stock chords

Use compound intervals, advanced seventh chords, tensions, sus, add, and slash chords correctly, so you can create rich progressions that support game moods, cutscenes, and themes.

03 · Motifs

Turn tiny ideas into full melodic themes

Take a 2 bar motif and develop it 12 different ways with inversion, sequence, augmentation, truncation, and more, so you can build memorable character themes and level music from almost nothing.

04 · Structure

Understand how real music moves

Use harmonic function, tonic subdominant dominant movement, and cadences to structure phrases that actually resolve, not just loop forever.

05 · Communication

Read, notate, and speak music at a serious level

Advanced key signatures, accidentals, dynamics, tempo marks, slash and beat notation, articulations, and analysis, so you can communicate with other musicians, producers, and clients like a pro. In short, you will stop “winging it” and start knowing exactly why your music works, how to fix it when it does not, and how to push your style forward on purpose.

How The Course Works

Inside The Best Music Theory Course: Level 3 you get:

  1. Step by step video lessons that build from advanced rhythm into harmony, melody, and analysis, using clear on screen notation and lots of counted and clapped examples, not dry theory rants.
  2. Concrete exercises that make you do the work so you actually internalize the concepts instead of just “understanding” them.
  3. Real music examples that show how these tools show up in the wild, so you can immediately spot them in the game and film scores you love.
  4. Lifetime access to all lessons, so you can pause, rewatch, and come back as your composing level rises.

You are not memorizing trivia. You are building a permanent skill set.

Why This Course

Why this course instead of more random YouTube videos

Random videos will show you tricks. This course gives you a system. It is designed as Level 3 in a full theory path, so it assumes you already know the basics and are tired of being treated like a total beginner. We go deep, but always stay practical and grounded in real music uses, not academic puzzles. If you want to be known for creating original, emotional game music, not just “following tutorials,” this is the piece that makes everything you already know click together.

FAQ

Questions before you apply

Who is this for exactly?
Composers and producers who already know the basics of notation, intervals, key signatures, and triads, and want to actually use intermediate and advanced theory to compose better music. If you are serious about composing for games or cinematic music, this is for you.
Do I need to have taken Levels 1 and 2 with Best Music Coach?
No. You do need the equivalent skills. You should be comfortable reading in treble or bass clef, know major and minor scales, basic intervals, triads, and simple rhythms. If you have that, you are good.
I am self taught. Will I be lost?
If you can follow a basic lead sheet and know what a major scale and a minor chord are, you will be fine. The course fills in gaps and tightens your foundation while pushing you into more advanced territory.
Is this just abstract theory or will it help my tracks?
Every concept is tied back to real usage. Rhythms, chords, and melodies are shown in musical context, and the exercises are designed to plug directly into your own composing.
How long does it take to complete Music Theory 3?
Music Theory 3 is self-paced. The core video lessons are about 10 hours 52 minutes total. Calendar time depends on how many focused hours you put in each week; at about 3 hours per week, plan on about 4 weeks for the video lessons, plus extra time to do the exercises and apply the material.
What if my focus is game music specifically?
Level 3 gives you the theory tools game composers actually use: rhythmic control, colorful harmony, melodic development, and clear phrase structure. Those skills transfer directly into composing for levels, bosses, cutscenes, and trailers.
What if I hate dry, mathy theory?
Then you are in the right place. The teaching style is conversational and example heavy. You will still work, but it will feel like learning to speak a language, not surviving a textbook.
How do I join?
Click “Apply now” and answer a few quick questions so we can make sure Level 3 is the right fit. If it looks like a fit, you will have an application phone call with the team to talk through your goals, answer questions, and confirm the next step. If you are accepted, you get access and can start the course.
Is there a guarantee?

Yes, our guarantees are for the programs, not each individual course by itself.

If you’re in QuesTone, you’re covered by our 10‑in‑365 guarantee: follow the plan and complete the required work, and if you don’t release 10 professional‑quality pieces in 365 days, we refund your program tuition.

If you’re in Gamer Music Creator Guild, you’re covered by our Guild guarantee: show up, do the work, and we’ll get you to 10–20 released tracks in 120 days – or we keep working with you for free until you do.

This course is one part of those systems. When you apply, we’ll tell you which program you’d be in and which guarantee would apply to you.
